Altherm Window Systems Palmerston North was the subcontractor appointed by Ebert Construction to carry out all of the external and internal aluminium joinery trade on Project Takitini Air Movements Terminal Base Ohakea. This included flush-glazed, shopfront, commercial section and internal glazing systems throughout the 5500m² project as well as high permance glazed units.
The project configuration and overall design was such that it presented a variety of structural, seismic and weatherproofing challenges to the contractor. The strong building aesthetic and dramatic spaces could not have been achieved without the valued input of the subcontractor at the shop drawing design and construction phases of the project.
As the construction monitoring team lead, we called on and worked with Steve Dooley and his team throughout these phases of the project which resulted in a number of complex and technical solutions that were required to achieve the clients vision and the various and demanding criteria set by the lead project consultant Beca’s engineers.
The resut has been a facility which achieves all of the clients and user needs whilst its crisp aesthetic is a commanding prescence among the base facilities. NZDF staff have referred to it as the “jewel in the crown” and this is due in no small part to the efforts of Altherm Window Systems and Ebert Construction Ltd
We thank Steve and his team for their efforts and look forward to working with them again in the future.

Ebert Construction engaged Steve Dooley and his team at Altherm Window Systems to provide external glazed curtain walling, internal glazed walls, and various metal windows and doors for the construction of the new Ohakea Air Movements Terminal.
The building had a strong distinctive architectural focus of which the windows and doors were identified early on as a key element and a critical trade to the success of the project.
From the outset Altherm Window Systems provided assistance with some challenging design issues which included seismic head support detailing and seismic separation through the raking glazed curtain wall façade.
The installation of the main external sloping curtain wall went seamlessly which demonstrated their ability to effectively execute a well thought out pre-planned methodology.
At the business end of the project Altherm really stood up and delivered on multiple work faces without compromise for health and safety and the quality of the end product.
Altherm Window Systems should be very proud of their contribution to this iconic project as the feedback received from both client and consultant overwhelming confirmed that they have well exceeded expectations.
